Valentine
If I should get a valentine
From Janie Green next door -
I'd run and give her a BIG kiss
To even up the score!

Reflection
One day when I was walkin' I came upon a boy.
He looked exactly like me. His name like mine was "Roy."
But he seemed so FUNNY - he was standing upside down.
And when I looked quite puzzled he answered with a frown.
I asked "What are you doin'" - he wouldn't speak a word.
I shouted and I shouted and I am sure that he heard.
But he just stood there starin' - so I took my fishin' pole
And left him there a-standin' in the old swimmin' hole.

Smells
My puppy smells of grass and trees
And kitty smells of mice and fleas
My daddy smells like cigarettes
And granny smells like violets
My mommy smells all pink and sweet
To hug her tight is quite a treat
I think of all the smells around
I much prefer my little hound
‘Cause ‘tho his smell could sweeter be
He smells the mostest just like me!!!

A grandmother"s poems from the heart
Children's poems written by my grandmother for an illustrated book she published in 1950 titled "Smarty Pants." The poems were inspired by the antics of my grandmother's two young children at the time, one of whom was my now-deceased father. In 2005, when Grandma was the proud age of 90, I digitally recorded her readings of these poems. Before she passed away in early 2006, I promised her I would give new life to the poems and share them with a new generation of children, familes -- and poetry-lovers -- everywhere.
